- I have seen some compliants here about the USR Sportster modems, but what
- is it that is the problem?
-
- I have the 14.4 USR sporster for a few years, so far having had 3
- problems. The first problem was after about 2 years of fine operation, the
- modem would not work at all when the ambient air was hot in the summer
- (about 90F). I returned it and they promptly sent me anther repaired one
- back. It worked fine for another year, until now. Intermittently, the
- modem would stop responding to commands and the only fix was to remove
- the card physically and reinstall. Now the latest problem is that the
- modem will stop connecting with the data compression (MPN?). This again
- is intermittent.
-
- Now, I have lost a lot of faith with USR, and have looked at another
- brand such as Cardinal. The only thing is that there is a sale for a 28k
- sportster and I'm wondering if I should get it, since it's close to the
- price of the Cardinal, or will I be screwing myself if this Sportster
- craps out in a few months.
-
- Decisions, decisions....
-
- That's why I'm wondering if the problems that others have had are just
- setup problems or hardware problems with the USR Sporster.
